Penn Undergraduates in New Orleans

Over 50 Years of Service in post-Katrina New Orleans

When Hurricane Katrina devastated New Orleans in 2005, help flowed into the Big Easy from colleges, nonprofit organizations and individuals from all across America. But as the flood waters receded so did much of the help from outside the historic city.

After the storm the Fox Program made a 10-year “Covenant to Serve” the people and city of New Orleans.   Penn undergraduates and recent graduates working through the Fox Program have participated actively in the human, physical, and financial recovery process in post-Katrina New Orleans and have contributed 50 person years of service through a combination of week-long service trips, summer internships and full-time, year-round jobs with the leading nonprofits in New Orleans.
