Steve Viscelli is a sociologist at the University of Pennsylvania who studies freight transportation. His first book, The Big Rig: Trucking and the Decline of the American Dream (UC Press, 2016), explains how long-haul trucking went from being one of the best blue-collar jobs to one of the toughest. His current book project, Driverless? Autonomous Trucks and the Future of the American Trucker, explores self-driving trucks and their potential impacts on labor and the environment.
